HELP

I just wanted to look at my last blog post and found that my blogheader had disappeared and in its place was a question mark.  After some research I found that I apparently had exceeded my Picasa Web Album limit.  I didn't even know I was using Picasa!!  I upload mostly straight from iPhoto.

Has this happened to you?  How did you solve the issue?  I don't want to delete pictures belonging to older posts just to make room for new ones.  That's missing the whole point about a diary.

Can anyone help please?  Do I need Picasa?

Narri Narro, Miau, Rhabarber Ahoi

It is the season when anything goes again.  Villingen is a stronghold of carnival which has been celebrated there for centuries.  'Fasnet' is a historic spectacle with traditional costumes, colourful outfits and since it is in the Black Forest there are of course lots of witches too!
There are three main guilds and lots of smaller ones.  The oldest is called Narrozunft and has traditional costumes for the women and imposing male figures.  Also very popular is the Katzenmusik and then there are the Glonkis in their blue-white nightshirts.
The traditional costumes of the Alt Villingerin (younger women) and the Morbili (old women) are all handmade.  The head dress of the Alt Villingerin (like I'm wearing in the photo) are crocheted with gold thread.  Modern ones are often sewn from braid which is of course much cheaper and quicker.  The masks of the Narrozunft are all hand carved and the waiting list is several years long as there are not that many woodcarvers these days.

Textures

We had a lot of fun playing with textures this time.  I started with some fine bouclé in single rows mixed with linen.  The thick bouclé I did in Tabby and Twill and at the end I wove some unspun fleece in by hand.

I also had a go at a finger controlled technique called Brooks Bouquet which has a lovely effect, especially when used with only one colour.

Kleine Muster/Small Samples

So langsam tut sich was beim Weben!
Things are beginning to happen with the weaving!
After the first two samples were finished they were cut of the loom, tidied up and knotted.
Now it was time for experimenting and the first thing was to choose colours, but what a choice!
Jetzt einfach mal drauf los weben.  Da lernt man schnell was funktioniert und was nicht.
Just having a go teaches you quickly what works and what doesn't.
Gar nicht so schlecht für den Anfang.
Not a bad start.

Welcome

I would like to welcome three new readers.
Barbara from Dachschaden who sews beautiful bags and purses, Creative Weaving who apart from weaving makes lovely bead things and Gilly7 who remains mysterious and I'm wondering if she has something to do with the Guild.
