Tunika

Last year I bought this sock wool from the Opal factory shop and decided to knit a long cardigan, but then decided to knit a tunic/dress.
I started as usual without a pattern and cast on 160 stitches to knit conventionally from the bottom up and finished the back and front pieces.  I measured a lot to be sure it would fit.
Most sleeves I knit from the top down, so too this time.  The sleeves were almost finished when I thought the whole thing looked odd and decided to tack the sides together so that I could try it on properly.  Everything fitted, except... around the bottom it looked like Jennifer Lopez at the Oscars.  Except that she's 20 years younger!!!  Oh dear, the whole thing was nearly complete and I didn't know what to do.  Then I read an article somewhere about the things to consider to avoid such mishaps.  Well, I did, and it fitted, but it didn't look at all nice around the bottom.  I decided to write a mail to this lady with some photos (not included here!!).  She responded quite quickly and agreed that it all fitted beautifully, except the bit under the bottom...  She advised me to simply cut off the skirt part from the hip down and then knit from the top down increasing as I went.  This was pretty hairy and I had never done that, but it was no good the way it was, so I got the scissors and carefully unpicked it stitch by stitch, put the stitches back on a needle and knitted again.
Now it's finished and I wear it on top of Jeans and am really glad I had the courage to chop it up.

  6. Wow, you're brave to cut it up and try again, but after all that hard work you want to be happy with it. Nice dress, and no pattern? That's impressive.

  7. Your dress is really amazing!!! The style, the form and the variegated color look just perfect! It's always scary to me each time I have to unravel stitches, but you did cut and knitted again! How brave! I just looked through your blog and adored your work! How talented you are!
